The Best Tips for Beating Business Travel Fatigue

We've all been there before: You're traveling for business and have an important meeting scheduled for the morning after you arrive. But no matter how much you are "Prepared For Battle" during your redeye flight when you finally wake up in your destination city, all you want to do is crawl back under the covers and sleep for a week. Fortunately, you can do a few things to combat business travel fatigue. With some planning, you can ensure that you arrive at your meeting well-rested and ready to take on the world.

Get a good night's sleep before your trip.

This may seem obvious, but getting as much rest as possible is essential before embarking on a long journey. If you can, try to bed early the night before your flight and avoid drinking caffeine in the evening. That way, you'll be more likely to fall asleep quickly and get a few extra hours of shuteye.

Dress comfortably.

There's nothing worse than being cramped up in an uncomfortable outfit while trying to catch some Zs on a plane. Wear loose-fitting clothes that you know will be comfortable, even if you have to sacrifice style points. And don't forget to pack a pair of cozy socks - they'll make all the difference in the world when you're trying to get comfortable on a cold plane.

Bring your entertainment.

It can be hard to sleep when you're surrounded by people making noise or watching TV. Bring a book, or download your favorite shows before takeoff so you can escape into your world if necessary.

Try Melatonin or another sleep aid.

If all else fails and you can't seem to drift off, don't hesitate to take a sleep aid like Melatonin. Just be sure not to take anything that will make you groggy the next day - you want to be well-rested for your meeting, not sluggish!

Drink lots of water and avoid alcohol.

It's essential to stay hydrated when flying, especially if it's a long flight. Alcohol may make you feel drowsy in the short term, but it will only dehydrate you and make it harder to sleep in the long run. Stick to water (or unflavored seltzer) and save the fun drinks after your meeting.

Now you know a few tips for avoiding business travel fatigue. Following these simple guidelines ensures that you're well-rested and ready to take on whatever your meeting throws. Planning is vital, so start preparing for your trip as soon as possible! Do you have any other tips for beating business travel fatigue? Please share them with us in the comments below!
